The third way we treat patients who have lost or losing their remaining teeth is by using fixed implant supported porcelain bridges. These custom made bridges can be adapted to nearly every situation, usually 6-8 implants will be needed in each jaw to support this bridge. As a result not all patients are suitable, however they still represent the gold standard in tooth replacement and offer the patient the most natural life-like feel to their replacement teeth. This is the most expensive option but really is the gold standard in the replacement of a full arch of teeth if you have adequate bone density and gum health.

The best source of bone for your graft is your own bone tissue from elsewhere in your body. Bone can be grafted from the chin, the back of the lower jaw, the hip and the tibia. Bone taken from your own body is the most viable and has faster healing times when compared to alternatives. In many cases, a combination of artificial bone substitutes and your natural bone is used. In any bone grafting procedure, the grafted bone provides an anchor and stimulus for the existing bone to grow onto, eventually providing an environment suitable for the placement of implants.

I just left (Louisiana State University) LSU School of Dentistry this morning with my estimate.
I’ve been quoted $ which includes 3 implants and 1 bone graft. This does not include the abutments or crowns.
The bone graft surgery is to be done first, is $ and is included in the $ quote.
The bone grafting surgery and implants are done by senior year students in the periodontal department and supervised by the professors. Normally the senior year periodontists charge full retail rates but even this quote seems to be lower than what I’ve been seeing out there. I may be wrong, please feel free to weigh in on this.
The abutment work and crowns will be be performed by the junior year students at 1/3 retail rates and also supervised by professors.

Traditionally, one implant holds one crown. However, if you are missing a few teeth you do not necessarily need an implant for every missing tooth: one implant can keep the crown by doing some prosthetic bridge or denture. Amount required for reconstruction implants depends on the volume and density of bone tissue at the implantation site of each implant. In the case of the reconstruction of the arch kept on implants are required a minimum of 4 implants in the upper jaw and two implants in the lower jaw. The exact number of implants is determined individually. After a detailed study of our implantology exactly determines how many implants are required.
